find fun, peace & creative joy making Swedish Folk Art with Tina Rawson
Välkommen!
A devotee of the fine art of Swedish folk art, I provide classes in the beloved "kurbits" style. It's an easy and fun way to explore color and shapes, as well as the history of the art and a little bit about Swedish culture. You will quickly learn this craft from the 1700's and how to apply it for fun, relaxation or to inform your own artistic work. It's easy and relaxing to play with paints on paper and we can introduce more mediums as we grow. Have fun making art with us!
Thank you for coming to the Scandinavian Cultural Center in West Newton. I'm sorry that some of you were rushed. I hope that you will send me your pictures or share them on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/tina.rawson.art

The next event is going to be fantastic and much less rushed! We had to rush because others were coming, but we have the full day at Adelynrood on June 15th! Sign up for the Midsummer Madness Art Retreat today!

Tina as a teacher
I've taught for twenty years, all ages from preschool to seniors, and I love it. I enjoy connecting with people over art. I started Start 2 Art in 2015 and taught art all over the Newburyport area and in my backyard camper. When Covid hit I took a breather and made my own art. That's when I found Swedish folk art and started to play around with it. It's so much fun! I've taught Swedish Folk Art ("kurbits") for a year now in person and now I'm adding zoom classes to the mix. I visit Sweden every year, and I continue to take classes myself so make sure to keep coming back!
01
Basic Kurbits
Learn how to make a Kurbits swoopy flower, like this one, with whatever colors you chose. This is the first class, and it's a whole lot of fun at $60 for two hours which includes background information on Swedish Folk Art, supplies, and coffee at 14 Cedar Street, Amesbury. You will leave with a swoopy colorful kurbits, similar to the one on the left, to hang on your wall with pride. This class runs with at least three ppl.
02
Swedish Folk Art
I teach a three week class which includes:
-
mixing classic kurbits colors using your paints
-
learning how to make a Swedish flower border
-
adding your words to the border
Each class is two hours long and is taught at my studio. The cost is $60 for each class (or $40 each if you sign up for all three weeks totaling $120) which includes all supplies. I will give everything that you need to make a beautiful border with words on a framed canvas for your loved ones and everything that you need to keep painting! Zoom is a choice as well. Two hours per class. Please sign up with friends for extra fun!
03
Private Lesson for one
I'm offering the opportunity to meet with me for one hour to learn this unique folk art for $50/hour at my studio or on zoom. I will base the class on your requests and level. You may find that you love it as a relaxing class or would like to bring it to the next level as I have. (featured: The Empress by Tina Rawson ©2022)

Private Party for 3+
You will get my undivided attention, and I will teach you kurbits at your level and your speed. Feel free to bring goodies and we will make art together at 14 Cedar Street. You will love the space and the painting that you create using stencils, if you wish, and other special supplies from Sweden. (2 hour $100, 3 hour $150 + supplies for more than three party-goers) We can accommodate up to ten, please email me to book tinastart2art@gmail.com
05
Bonader "Wall Hanging"
My latest creation inspired this class which is my attempt to make a Swedish wall hangings and believe it or not, you can make something like this too! It's a harder class but I think that we can have a great time getting started and you can finish it up at home, or with me. Contact tinastart2art@gmail.com if interested!
APRIL 27
WAS
GREAT!
The first weekend class was a success! Eight happy painters enjoyed learning the basic kurbits swoop and a little about this folk art. They went home with some knowledge, a packet and a canvas so they can keep practicing. I hope that they will join me for the next level class and show me their paintings on Facebook at TinaRawsonArt!
The class on Swedish Folk Art was held at 14 Cedar Street in Amesbury MA. Some people hadn't painted in decades, others were professional artists but they all learned something and had fun making art together in a calm and pretty place and learned something new.
