Inside a beauty brick building on the square in Amesbury MA you'll find a museum celebrating the history of Amesbury and craftspeople through their classes. I've been fortunate enough to teach two Swedish Folk Art classes which have been very successful and highly received by the artists. I imagines when I first started giving these classes that it would be mainly people of Swedish heritage who would take them but it appears that folk art crosses all geographic boundaries.

The love of color, form and enjoyment of making something is what is important. I'm really happy to say that even with AI and all the mechanical things at our disposal, people still love making things with their hands, as do I. The calming connection between the art and the other people in the class is wonderful. There's a hum that shows when everyone is in the flow, and they are pleased with the results.

But no matter what the results end up being, it is process over product. Many are still learning how to paint, and you see how quickly they improve (like this woman's piece, above, made in her second class.) I'm just happy everyone had fun! Thanks for coming. Hope to see you again, and please stop by my booth on July 26/27 at Art on the Mall, next to the Green St CVS in Newbuyport from 10 - 4pm.
